Behind the Gates was founded by an Australian father who started noticing things as his child progressed through the education system from preschool onwards to primary school.

He noticed things that didn't sit right. Content his child was being exposed to at school that he hadn't agreed to and hadn't been told about. It was sometimes subtle, sometimes loud, but always present. Ideological framing in classroom interactions that had no place in a supposedly neutral public education system. A creeping sense that the school environment was being used to shape his child's worldview in ways that had nothing to do with reading, writing, or arithmetic.

When he looked into it, he found the explanation. Two mandatory government frameworks, documents most Australian parents have never seen and were never told about that govern every interaction that children have with teachers and staff from birth through to the end of primary school. Frameworks that prescribe: Post-structuralist theory. Post-colonial theory. Feminist theory. Gender ideology. All of it mandated.

None of it was in the published curriculum that most parents understand as the document guiding their children’s education.

When he tried to simply opt his child out of the ideological content he was watching unfold in the school environment and leave it at that, he discovered there was no mechanism to do so. No opt-out. No informed consent process. No meaningful complaint pathway. Just a principal with newly instated discretionary power by the government used to decide what his child would be exposed to regardless of his objections as her father.

And when he pushed further, reading the legislation, the policy documents, the legal bulletins, the full picture emerged and it was disturbing. The parental right to withdraw children from controversial content had been quietly deleted from Department policy with no announcement.

A comprehensive legal bulletin existed protecting gender diverse students in schools. No equivalent bulletin existed protecting parents. The educational frameworks had been built on ideological theories that by definition position traditional values, Western culture, and biological reality as problems to be overcome, and embedded them into the education of every Australian child from birth, mandated for use in preschool environments from birth, before those children can even walk or talk, let alone think critically about anything at all.

This wasn't negligence. This was architecture. A system deliberately built to propagate ideology to children during the developmental window when they are least able to question it, while simultaneously removing every mechanism that parents might use to resist it.

Behind the Gates exists to document that system, what it contains, how it operates, and what it is doing to Australian children and families without their knowledge or consent.
